Former Prime Minister Victor Ponta wants the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) to prosecute President Klaus Iohannis for conflict of interest, following his that his proposal for ambassador to Denmark and Iceland is the son of a family friend.
The person in question is Mihai Alexandru Gradinar, the son of Ilie Gradinar, former director of Energie Termica SA Sibiu and family friend with Iohannis family, turnulsfatului.ro and ziare.com report.
Victor Ponta underscores that, given that the company with which Ilie Gradinaru worked for was subordinated to the local authorities in Sibiu, the case could be one of conflict of interest.
“Good – so now, as we are all equal in Romania and we observe what happened to others, here is what should happen:
- DNA to initiate a criminal investigation against Mr. Klaus Iohannis for committing the crime of ‘Conflict of interest’ provided by Art 301 of the new Criminal Code.
- The beautiful and free youngsters who called for ‘a different kind of politics’ to go to the streets tonight to demand the resignation of the guilty President.
- Upon resignation, Mr. Iohannis will be prosecuted for forgery and use of forgery, offenses committed in order to obtain fraudulently a house in Sibiu, as already established by the final judgment of Brasov Court of Appeal. And certainly he will be required by ANAF to repay the amount of RON 600 million collected without right as rent for the house, for a house obtained fraudulently.
I believe that Romania is a state of law where we are all equal before the law and we are responsible for our deeds – or NOT?!” Victor Ponta comments ironically on Facebook.
President Klaus Iohannis cannot be prosecuted anyway by DNA, as the president benefits from immunity while in office.
Mihai Alexandru Gradinar is the son of Ilie Gradinar, former director of Energie Termica SA Sibiu, turnulsfatului.ro reports.
When getting married, his civil ceremony was officiated, a few years ago (2009 – our note), by the then Sibiu Mayor Klaus Iohannis, in a new building.
