New protests are taking place in Victoriei Square, downtown Bucharest, as more than 25,000 people have already turned in front of the government building for the seventh day, calling for the government resignation.

In spite of the cold weather, the protesters chant:  “Resignation,” “Thieves,” “DNA come to get them”, “Leave!”, “Night thieves” or “PSD, red plague”, “Dragnea, don’t forget, Romania is not yours,” “We’ll be here every day.”

The demonstrators have placards display messages such as: “In democracy, the thieves are in jail,” “Grindeanu Government — traitors of the country,” “Resign!” “We don’t admit laws issued by mobsters!” “The thief who is not caught is not honest merchant,” “Do you want pardon? Take hard labour!” “Dragnea is a criminal.”

In the area where fruit are sold to protesters, mainly apples and pears, but also bagels, the following messages are displayed: “Energy for democracy, for free,” “An apple a day keeps Dragnea away.”

Some of the demonstrators are waving Romania’s tricolour flag and others are blowiprotest 4ng whistles and vuvuzelas.

More than 5,000 protesters are demanding the resignation of the Government in Sibiu Monday evening, after 20:00h, a march which started at PSD headquarters in the Grand Square and continued on the main boulevards of the city, according to official estimates.

6,000 people were protesting downtown Cluj, 8,500 people were in the streets in Bistrita, other protests were registered in Iasi, Constanta and Brasov. More than 5,000 demonstrators were in the streets in Timisoara, according to media reports.

Counter-rally at Cotroceni to support the Gov’t, against President Iohannis

About 2,300 protesters were in front of Cotroceni Palace for the second consecutive day to support the Grindeanu Government.

“Due to the attitude of the President who should have called on both sides, meaning and power and opposition, to say “What do you want? Let’s get to work! I will not do that, the others will not do that! You have got the youth in the streets against older people and vice versa.

“As older people, we call the power and the opposition as quickly as possible to talks, to say what they want,” a protester said.

Protesters chanted “We want government, not incitement,” “Without DNA owl”, “Do not be afraid, the Government stands” or “fight, fight, defend our government.”
