The longest bike tour in Romania, 325km-long Transylvania Epic Bike Ride, will run in Brașov, Mureș, Sibiu and Alba during June 23-26 and will include 15 touristic sights.
“Transylvania Epic Bike Ride is not a competition event, so the participants are not just pedaling but they can also visit over 15 major touristic sights in Transylvania. The track is 325 kilometer-long to be done in 4 days on asphalt, on forest paths or lanes (…) Outranking famous destinations such as Italy or Germany, Transylvania ranks 1st in the top of the most beautiful adventure holidays, according to Lonely Planet,” according to a press release by the organizers, “Traiesc Sanatos” Association and Running Media.
Transylvania Epic Bike Ride will kick off in Brașov on June 23 and will cross Racoș, Viscri, Rupea, Sighișoara, Daneș, Mălâncrăv, Biertan, Mediaș, Cetatea de Balta and will end in Sibiu on June 26.
Each bikers’ team can visit the touristic sights, among the most important are the emerald lake, the basalt columns and the extinct volcano near Racoș, Bethlen castle, Rupea fortress (dating back in 1324 and restored during 2010-2012), the fortified church of Viscri so dear to prince Charles, Mesendorf village and its medieval fortified church, the oak reservation in Breite where hundred-year-old trees can be seen, Mălâncrăv village where bio juice is produced and where visitors can also admire the fortified church and Apafi Mansion.
The sights also include Biertan fortified church built in 1490, Mediaș city, Bazna fortified church and Sibiu, the former European Culture Capital.
Participant will pedal in organized groups of 4 to 10 persons, with a leader chosen by the organizers. Each group will have its own tempo so that they can enjoy the surroundings and the sights.
Subscriptions are open at www.epicbikeride.ro, with 50 seats still available out of 150.
The participation fee includes the tour’s kit (a bicycle t-shirt, bike plates, medal, photos) breakfast in days 2, 3 and 4, a salad per day, logistics support (baggage transport from one location to another), technical assistance for bicycles, half day delivery point and many others.
Last year, the youngest participant had 11 years old and came accompanied by his parents.
