Romania’s First Lady to run in Sibiu marathon for premature babies

President Klaus Iohannis’ wife, Carmen Iohannis is attending the 2016 edition of the Semi Marathon in Sibiu to support the “We start runners for life” cause. She subscribed to the 4x5km relay race on Monday afternoon, with the event being scheduled on May 28th in Sibiu’s historical center.

The partner associations want to raise funds of RON 70,000 to buy a modern neonatal ventilator to treat the new born and premature babies who have respiratory affections. They represent the majority of the babies admitted to the neonatology intensive care unit of the Sibiu County Hospital. The money will also finance 21 causes proposed by the local community in Sibiu.

The runners support the cause by paying the participation fee, while other supporters can make direct donations on the event’s website. The deadline for subscriptions was Monday, May 16th.

The SemiMarathon’s previous four editions have raised RON 450,000 to support 79 projects. The event is organized by the Sibiu Community Foundation, Digi 24 informs.

The races address all ages and all persons. The age limit is 4 years old. The oldest contender increased from 58 in 2013 to 65 last year.
