A chestnut in Sibiu got viral on the Internet due to its heart shaped treetop. The chestnut near the city’s center started to green, with passers-by queuing to capture it on their cameras.
The tree hasn’t had this shape until last year when the city hall’s workers cut it so that the two main branches should avoid the high voltage direct current lines, but they didn’t realize the branches would take such interesting shape.
“The tree was cut and the result was the heart shape. The workers had no intention to create such shape,” said Mirela Gligore, spokesperson of the Sibiu city hall.
The chestnut is unique not only in Sibiu, but also in the country.
Sibiu is one of the most important cultural centres of Romania located in the heart of Transylvania.
Formerly the centre of the Transylvanian Saxons the old city of Sibiu was ranked as “Europe’s 8th-most idyllic place to live” by Forbes in 2008 and served as the European Capital of Culture in 2007.
Sibiu is a standing allure for the tourists due to its exquisite medieval charm, outstanding views of the surrounding landscapes, great food and crooked, cobbled alleys that take you a step back in history.
