Self-declared Emperor of all Roma Everywhere in Romania, Iulian Radulescu died at his home in Sibiu on Thursday, the self-declared King of Roma, Dorin Cioaba told local new agency Mediafax.

“Emperor Iulian Radulescu passed away this morning. May God comfort the unconsoled family,” Dorin Cioaba posted on Facebook.

Asked why the emperor has died, Cioaba said as far as he knows the emperor was very sick. “I know he was hospitalized and that he has been at home since Monday. He was very sick, had cardiac problems,” Cioaba said.

Iulian Radulescu was 79 years old and self-proclaimed himself “emperor of all Roma everywhere” under the name of Iulian I on August 9, 1993.

Emperor Radulescu was King Cioaba’s cousin and his biggest rival.

In 1997, Iulian Rădulescu announced the creation of Cem Romengo– the first Rom state in Targu Jiu, southwestern Romania. According to Rădulescu, “this state has a symbolic value and does not affect the sovereignty and unity of Romania.”
