Over 80 exhibitors from Romania and abroad come to the tenth edition of the Christmas Fair in Sibiu due to start on November 18.

The most expected fair will open in Piata Mare, Sibiu at 7 p.m. with a pan-pipe concert performed by Radu Nechifor. After that a lighting system comprising 28 architectural projectors will be turned on. Santa Claus’ workshop will not miss the show either.

According to the organizers, the fair’s 2016 edition has the monumental screening in the limelight; it will be a show of lights projected on all buildings in Piata Mare every night, for 46 days. The show has been prepared for months by a foreign team. The 28 architectural spotlights will create a dynamic stage while giving the square a shinny look. The special projection will be turned on within the “Turn ON the Lights” show performed by reed pipe player Radu Nechifor&Friends, to confirm a symbolic link to the fair’s first edition in 2007, opened by Gheorghe Zamfir.

As for the Santa’s workshop, children will be able to attend the biscuits and candles workshops, to paint on ginger bread or to make Pixel Art decorations. The Santa Claus’ workshop is visited by 30,000 children every year.

The first edition of the Christmas Fair took place in 2007 when Sibiu was the European Capital of Culture. The 2007 edition, which was a pilot project, was made by Barbara Schöfnagel, the social affairs attaché of the Austrian Embassy in Bucharest, together with the Sibiu City Hall.

The fair grew from 38 lodges to 80 ones.
