Ranking of Romania’s Most Appreciated Neighborhoods and Cities

In 2024, Cluj-Napoca and Sibiu topped the ranking, each standing out with distinct strengths. Cluj-Napoca had the highest total score based on objective indicators such as traffic, landmarks, air quality, and property prices, while Sibiu scored the best considering 13 subjective criteria rated by the city’s residents.

Brașov ranked highest for safety, public transport accessibility, tranquility, and resident satisfaction. Among the evaluated subjective indicators were safety, cleanliness, access to parking and transportation, bike lanes, noise levels, running water, waste management, gas, sewage systems, thermal heating services, satisfaction levels, and the overall cost of living.

The ranking was made using the T.R.A.I. index, calculated by the Storia platform, which integrates both objective data from sources such as Google Traffic, Google Places, Airly, and Storia, as well as subjective opinions from over 100,000 residents in the areas included on the platform.

In 2024, Cluj-Napoca ranked the highest based on objective data, with a total score of 42.7, followed by Târgu Mureș (39.8), Deva (39.5), and Sibiu (39.5). Călărași and Constanța were the next cities in the top, with a score of 39.5. Regarding the top neighborhoods, Primăverii (Bucharest) ranked first with a score of 61.6, followed by Aviației (Bucharest) with 61.1, Bariera Vâlcii (Craiova) with 55.5, 13 Septembrie (Bucharest) with 54.3, and Gruia in Cluj-Napoca, with a score of 53.1. The total scores were calculated by averaging the four objective indicators.

Sibiu recorded the highest subjective score, based on the opinions of residents who evaluated the 13 criteria, reaching a score of 76.9. The second place was taken by Brașov, with a score of 74.3, followed by Oradea, with 73.5. The next cities in the top were Râmnicu Vâlcea (72.8) and Cluj-Napoca. Additionally, Sibiu stood out with four neighborhoods in the top: Valea Aurie was the most appreciated neighborhood by residents, with a score of 83.9, followed by Ștrand (83.6), Sub Arini (83.3), and Calea Poplăcii. In fifth place was the Orizont neighborhood, also in Sibiu, with a score of 82.3.

In terms of safety, Brașov was the city where residents felt the most protected. Among neighborhoods, Andrei Mureșanu stood out as the most appreciated in this regard. When it comes to cleanliness, Râmnicu Vâlcea led the city ranking, while the Trei Stejari neighborhood in Sibiu received the best evaluations at the neighborhood level.

When asked about the availability of parking spaces in their neighborhood, residents of Râmnicu Vâlcea expressed the highest satisfaction. Additionally, the Sânnicolau neighborhood in Arad is perceived as an area where residents can easily find parking spaces. Brașov ranked first among Romanian cities where residents believe they have the best access to public transport. At the same time, the Basarab neighborhood in Bucharest is appreciated for its public transport accessibility.

Brașov was the city that received the highest score for overall satisfaction, as well as the residents of the Orizont neighborhood in Buzău. When it comes to the overall cost of living, residents of Sibiu are the most satisfied, while in the Craiovița Nouă neighborhood in Craiova, living costs are viewed positively by residents.

Regarding access to bike lanes, Sibiu stands out as the most favorable city, with residents stating that they can easily get around the city by bike. The Ștrand neighborhood in Sibiu is the highest rated in this regard. Brașov is recognized as the city with the lowest noise levels, and the Stupini neighborhood is the top-rated in this category, perceived as a quiet area.

Cluj-Napoca is the city that residents perceive as having the best heating system. At the neighborhood level, the Universității neighborhood in Craiova stands out as the area where residents are most satisfied with this aspect. Regarding access to running water, residents of Sibiu are satisfied, while the Moara de Vânt neighborhood in Iași is highlighted as an area where residents are happy with this service.

Sibiu is also among the top cities when it comes to the gas network, and the Moara de Vânt neighborhood in Iași is appreciated by residents for the quality of these services. In terms of sewage systems, Sibiu ranked first in residents’ perceptions, both at the city level and through the Sub Arini neighborhood, which received the best ratings in this category.
